DIY Wood Plank Wall Tutorial: A Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Prepare Your Planks and Wall

Since the plywood underlayment is typically very smooth, minimal preparation is needed. Focus on lightly sanding any rough edges that resulted from the cutting process, especially if your planks were cut at the store. This ensures a clean look and prevents splinters. Next, it’s time to prep your wall. Using your stud finder, meticulously locate and mark all the vertical studs on your wall. In our case, to ensure a perfect fit for the bottom row, I bought an additional panel and had the store cut a couple of planks specifically to the 5.75-inch width I needed for that final section.
