Colorful girl's bedroom design with bright pink and green decor

For those who follow my journey on Instagram, you’ve likely caught glimpses of my daughter Attley’s room. It’s a reflection of her personality: incredibly colorful and full of life! Attley shares my deep affection for almost every color imaginable (mauve being the humorous exception, of course!). So, when the time came to design her “big girl” room, and she requested bright pink dressers and bookcases, my immediate response was, “Absolutely!”

More recently, we embarked on a new project: painting her “new-to-us” second-hand bed. Her choice? A brilliant, cheerful green. My reaction was, “YES! Let’s make it happen!” There’s a wonderful lesson we can all learn from children and their fearless approach to color. Their uninhibited choices often lead to the most joyful and unique spaces. I truly adore how Attley’s room has blossomed into this magnificent display of vibrant hues. If you find yourself a bit hesitant about incorporating bold colors into your decor, I encourage you to read my guide: How to Decorate with Color Even When it Scares You!

Throughout this post, I’ll be sharing links to the various DIY projects that have brought this room to life. You’ll also find a comprehensive source list at the bottom, detailing items we’ve purchased or similar alternatives for our second-hand finds and DIY creations. Get ready for a treasure trove of inspiration!

But wait, there’s more! I’ve collaborated with a wonderful group of fellow color-loving bloggers for our exciting “Color Splash” blog hop. You can discover links to all their stunning, color-filled projects at the conclusion of this post. You absolutely won’t want to miss them!

Discover the Charm: Attley’s Colorful Girl’s Room Reveal

Without further ado, let’s dive into the full reveal of my little girl’s now complete, beautifully colorful room. Prepare for an explosion of joy!

Bright and playful girl's bedroom with DIY wall decals and canopy

Isn’t it just bright and utterly happy? In this captivating view, you can immediately spot the DIY wall decals I crafted. These decals feature a heartwarming quote from one of our most beloved Shel Silverstein poems, adding a personal and whimsical touch to the space. Above the bed, the ethereal DIY bed canopy, made from simple flat sheets, creates a cozy, dreamy retreat. Flanking the window are the semi-DIY curtains, another incredibly easy project that adds softness and a pop of pattern. To the right, you can admire our IKEA dressers and bookcases, transformed with clever hacks to achieve a sophisticated, custom-built look in vibrant pink. And let’s not forget the charming semi-DIY pompom bed skirt, which continues to be a favorite detail, adding playful texture and a hint of whimsy.

This perspective offers an even better appreciation of the opposite side of the room, highlighting the custom furniture. Here, the meticulously hacked IKEA dressers and bookcases, resplendent in pink, truly shine, showcasing how readily available furniture can be elevated into unique, personalized pieces. Dominating the wall with its joyful presence is the big, colorful DIY initial letter – undeniably one of my most cherished elements in Attley’s room. After creating a similar letter in varying shades of purple for her sister, Attley, with characteristic enthusiasm, requested one featuring “all the colors.” And as you can imagine, when it comes to her room, I never hesitate to fulfill such a delightful request!

Moving to another corner of her vibrant bedroom, we’ve installed an ingenious IKEA wire system. This practical and stylish solution serves as a rotating gallery, proudly displaying some of Attley’s latest artwork, celebrating her creative spirit. Above this display, you can see the elegant DIY gold frames & mats, which I crafted for less than $10 each – an incredible budget-friendly project! These frames encase some of our most treasured family photos, adding a touch of warmth and personal history to the space. Peeking out from the right corner of this photo is her wonderfully colorful chair, a piece with its own fascinating story. I transformed this basic wooden chair with fabric and Mod Podge, a process you can explore in detail in this dedicated post. Below, you’ll find an even better view of this unique chair. You can also spot the incredibly functional DIY floating shelves and desk we custom-built to perfectly fit and optimize what was once an awkward niche in the room, demonstrating how even challenging spaces can be made beautiful and practical.

The bright green bed, a relatively recent addition, has quickly become a beloved focal point for both Attley and me. We were fortunate enough to snag this gem for only $75 off Craigslist, a testament to the treasures waiting to be discovered through second-hand finds. When I asked Attley what color she envisioned for her “new” bed, her choice of green genuinely surprised me! I had fully expected her to opt for pink once more, given her initial preferences. However, I was completely onboard with her bold decision, and she is absolutely delighted with her choice. This vibrant green not only adds an unexpected pop of color but also harmonizes beautifully with the existing pinks and other hues throughout the room, creating a dynamic and cheerful atmosphere that truly encapsulates Attley’s unique style.

Attley’s room is a testament to the power of personal choice and the beauty of embracing every color of the rainbow. It proves that a sophisticated space can still be incredibly fun and vibrant, inspiring creativity and happiness every single day.
