This room has been transformed into a dreamy, colorful sanctuary, and we can’t wait to share every enchanting detail with you. Prepare to dive into a world of whimsical design and discover how a little creativity can completely revitalize a space.

As an interior design enthusiast, I absolutely adore crafting captivating spaces, especially when it comes to girls’ bedrooms. If you’re currently seeking girl’s bedroom ideas, design inspiration, or a vibrant kid’s room aesthetic, you’ve landed in the perfect place. We’re confident that Attley’s reimagined bedroom will spark your imagination and provide plenty of actionable tips for your next project.
Before we fully immerse ourselves in the delightful “after” photos, let’s take a quick journey back in time. For over seven years, when we first moved into our home, Attley’s room was, to put it mildly, an incredibly uninspiring and utterly beige box. It lacked personality, warmth, and any semblance of youthful charm. The room’s primary structural challenge presented by the chimney column running through it, creating awkward, shallow niches on both sides, which made furniture placement and design even more complex. Our vision was to transform this drab, neutral space into a joyful and functional haven that truly reflects Attley’s playful spirit and growing personality.

The catalyst for this room’s incredible transformation was a practical one: upgrading Attley’s bed from a twin to a more spacious full-size. This single change opened the door to a complete refresh, allowing us to rethink every element of the room to better suit her needs and evolving style. Our goal was to create a truly inspiring and functional girls’ bedroom that she would adore for years to come. Here’s a comprehensive look at the major updates that brought this colorful girl’s bedroom to life:
- **A Fresh Canvas with Paint:** We meticulously painted the ceiling, walls, and trim. The walls, now a crisp ‘Falling Snow’ by Behr, provide a bright and airy foundation for the vibrant accents to truly pop. This light shade ensures the room feels spacious and inviting.
- **Playful Door Colors:** To add unexpected bursts of color, we painted both the main bedroom door and the closet door. The bedroom door received a bold treatment, while the closet door offers another delightful splash of personality, contributing to the overall whimsical feel.
- **Modern Illumination:** A stylish new light fixture was installed, significantly upgrading the room’s ambiance and providing ample, beautiful lighting, enhancing the room’s cozy and welcoming atmosphere.
- **Comfort Underfoot:** Brand new, plush carpet was laid, adding a layer of softness and warmth. This new flooring choice creates a comfortable and inviting surface for play and relaxation.
- **A Whimsical Feature Wall:** We installed the stunning fox wall mural, which instantly became the room’s focal point. This enchanting mural brings an element of nature and playful storytelling, setting a magical tone for the entire space.
- **Patterned Perfection with an Area Rug:** Complementing the new carpet, we added the beautiful Mohawk Larrabee Area Rug along with a rug pad. Its intricate pattern and soft texture add a layer of sophistication and comfort, defining the sleep zone with elegance.
- **Optimized Storage Solutions:** A new, efficient closet system was installed, dramatically improving organization. This thoughtful upgrade includes smart storage solutions, such as back-of-the-door storage, ensuring everything has its place and keeping the room tidy.
- **A Classic Bed with a Custom Touch:** Attley’s Jenny Lind bed, a fantastic find from Facebook Marketplace, was lovingly refinished and painted in a custom coral hue chosen by Attley herself. This DIY project injected personal charm and saved on costs, making the bed a true labor of love.
- **Cozy Reading Nook Additions:** For her dedicated reading nook, we hung a new roman shade for privacy and light control, alongside vibrant curtains that frame the space beautifully, inviting her to curl up with a good book.
And now, the moment you’ve been waiting for! Feast your eyes on Attley’s completely transformed bedroom. It’s a testament to how thoughtful design choices and a splash of color can create a truly captivating and functional space. A complete source list for every item you see is conveniently located at the bottom of this post, so you can recreate this magic yourself. Isn’t it just bursting with joy and personality?

Without a doubt, my absolute favorite feature in Attley’s new room is her charming and incredibly cozy reading nook. This little corner of bliss was effortlessly created by incorporating a simple yet highly functional white storage bench from The Home Depot. I topped it with an assortment of soft cushions and plush pillows, transforming it into an irresistible spot for reading, dreaming, or simply relaxing. The built-in cubbies of this bench are ingeniously designed for holding books, toys, and baskets, keeping the space organized and clutter-free. Notably, the basket on the left side is perfectly sized to house her fire escape ladder, combining safety with seamless integration into the design.

To further define and enhance this sweet reading nook, I decided to “frame” it with these absolutely stunning curtains from Spoonflower/Roostery Home. Their unique pattern and vibrant colors add a sophisticated yet playful touch, perfectly complementing the room’s overall aesthetic. Adding a truly personal and whimsical detail, I hung the DIY felt ball letter that I crafted for her several years ago. This charming piece of wall art not only adds a touch of handmade warmth but also contributes to the room’s personalized and imaginative atmosphere, making it uniquely Attley’s.

The centerpiece of Attley’s sleeping area is her absolutely awesome Jenny Lind bed. I stumbled upon this treasure on the Facebook Marketplace, and to my delight, it was only $150! Made of solid wood, it was a fantastic find that simply required a little tender loving care and a fresh coat of paint. Attley herself played a crucial role in the design process, choosing a stunning coral color that perfectly captures her vibrant personality. We are both utterly obsessed with how this classic piece was transformed into a modern, cheerful focal point for her room.
Above her bed, a deeply personal touch awaits: a custom print featuring lyrics from one of her favorite songs from The Greatest Showman. This piece of art adds an incredible layer of meaning and sentiment to the space, making it truly her own. I’m incredibly pleased with how it turned out, adding not just color but also inspiration and joy. For those who love unique and personal decor, this print is part of my FREE printable art library, accessible to all subscribers (click here to subscribe to gain access).

In a smart and economical move, we executed a furniture swap, relocating Attley’s old dressers and bookcases to Avery’s room and bringing Avery’s dresser into Attley’s space. This beautiful dresser was an incredible roadside find, a testament to the power of repurposing. You can check out this post to see how I meticulously restored it, giving it a new lease on life and a fresh, colorful paint job that perfectly complements Attley’s room. Its new home here is simply perfect!
Above the dresser, we decided to keep the artwork simple, utilizing pieces Attley already cherished. This minimalist approach was intentional, allowing the truly gorgeous and dynamic wall mural to remain the star of this vibrant space. The dresser, with its elegant form and purposeful color, blends harmoniously without competing for attention, creating a balanced and visually appealing vignette.

Now, let’s turn our attention to Attley’s dynamic and productive desk area. This clever setup truly showcases how to maximize space in a challenging room. Years ago, we ingeniously built these DIY floating shelves and desk, a perfect solution for utilizing the once-awkward niche created by the chimney running through her room. This custom-built solution not only provides ample workspace but also integrated storage without taking up valuable floor space.
To complete this sweet and functional little area, we added a simple yet stylish wood and rattan chair from The Home Depot. Its natural textures and clean lines perfectly complement the bright colors of the room, creating an inviting spot for homework, creative projects, or quiet reflection. The desk area is now a testament to thoughtful design, transforming a structural impediment into a personalized and efficient hub within her colorful girl’s bedroom.

Oh, and I absolutely cannot forget to highlight one of our favorite elements that truly ties the entire room together: the gorgeous area rug. For those who might be wondering, yes, you absolutely can layer area rugs over existing carpet, and it’s a design trick I highly recommend for adding texture, color, and defining zones! The Mohawk Larrabee Area Rug we chose is nothing short of perfection. Its exquisite colors and captivating pattern are precisely what this vibrant girl’s bedroom needed to add depth and warmth. Beyond its visual appeal, it’s incredibly soft underfoot, making the room even more inviting and comfortable for Attley.
What are your thoughts on this dramatic transformation? We poured so much love and intention into every detail, and seeing Attley’s joy makes it all worthwhile! To truly appreciate the scale of this makeover, let’s take a look at some compelling side-by-side comparisons of her room when we first moved in versus its current, dazzling state. You know I can never resist a good before-and-after!
